How to Keep Your Brick-and-Mortar Business Safe and Secure for Everyone Posted on December 3, 2021December 3, 2021 By Leigh Langston Having customers and employees at your brick-and-mortar business location can be a great way to grow your business. However, there are a lot of safety risks that come along with having people at a physical location for your business. Here are a few ways to promote safety and security at your business. Clean Up Messes One of the first habits to start in your workplace is to clean up messes as they occur. Even though certain messes may not seem like a huge safety hazard, they can lead to harmful accidents. For example, if there is slippery water on the floor of your business, this could be a huge hazard and could lead to someone slipping and falling. Water or other slippery materials could come from outside weather, leakage, cleaning, or the materials that you use as part of your production processes. When you see messes in your business, even if they don’t seem obviously dangerous, make sure that you take the time to clean them up. Use Signs Another way to keep your business safe and secure is to post signs around your business to alert your employees and customers of potential safety risks. There are lots of different signs that you could include in your workplace to lower the risk of accident or injury. For example, you could have signs altering people of electrocution risks, heavy machinery, slippery areas, flammable materials, or other risks around your workplace. In some cases, signs may be required by OSHA regulations. It is important to figure out which signs you need to post in your area. Promote Safety Training In addition to cleaning up messes and using safety signs, it is also important to train your employees in order to promote and guarantee their safety. Especially if your employees are going to be using objects that could put their safety at risk, it is important to train them on how to use them safely before throwing them into the production process. For example, if you have an employee using some sort of machinery that has an electrical current and could be very hot, you’ll want to show them what protective clothing they should wear and how to be careful around the machinery. Additionally, if you have an employee working around lots of chemicals, you should show them how to deal with chemicals in a safe way, and should also provide protective glasses and clothing to promote their safety. Every Business Has Unique Safety Risks As you are trying to improve the safety of your work environment, remember the suggestions that have been discussed in this article. Each individual workplace has unique safety risks, so it is important to be familiar with the risks that are present in your space. The more time and thought you spend on the safety of your employees and customers, the safer they will be in your workspace.
