How to Get a Workout in While Having Fun Posted on February 3, 2022February 2, 2022 By Leigh Langston Staying motivated is one of the hardest parts of maintaining a regular workout routine. Going to the gym can be boring, especially when all you do is interact with machines or exercise on a treadmill. If you need more mental and emotional stimulation to keep you motivated, consider adding fun to your exercise agenda. Workout With a Friend Having a friend to work out with can motivate you to get moving, even if you’re not in the mood. It’s harder to skip a day of exercise when you know someone else is depending on you to show up. It’s also more enjoyable to have someone to talk to while you’re walking, running, or working out at the gym. A friend can also help improve your results. You and your workout buddy can motivate one another through encouraging comments and friendly competition. Friends can also spot one another for safety, introduce each other to new exercises, and provide feedback on attaining correct posture and technique. Join a Dance Class Dancing is the perfect way to add fun to any workout, and it’s more beneficial than you might think because it combines an aerobic workout with muscle strengthening and toning. As Jo+Jax points out, dance requires strength and flexibility but offers many health benefits. In addition to the cardiovascular benefits, dancing can make bones stronger and improve your balance and coordination. Any kind of dance is beneficial, so choose the type or the music that you like, whether it’s classical ballet, jazz, or country line dancing. Some exercise classes, such as Zumba, combine dance moves with exercise techniques. Play a Sport You don’t have to be an athlete to benefit from playing a sport. Even if you’ve never done well with sports before, there are several sports that are easy to learn, fun to play, and don’t take a great deal of skill. Bicycling, bowling, swimming, and badminton are just a few. According to Pickleballer, pickleball is a sport that’s growing in popularity with adults. It’s a game similar to tennis, in that it’s played on a court with a net, but it’s much less intense than tennis, making it a great choice for beginners. Adding more fun to your workout routine will motivate you to look forward to your sessions. While you’re enjoying your time working out, you’ll also begin to notice the many health benefits that regular exercise can bring.
