Having grown up with an Air Force dad and having to move around about every 3 to 4 years as a kid … we lived in the South a couple of times. We saw how terribly black families were treated and heard that word spewed viciously at black kids our own age by adults and other southern white kids. As a white kid with black friends, I saw how the word stung and hurt my friends. It rates as one of the most ugly words in our language for me. At 58 years old, I have never used the word and never will.
