Understanding Your Duty to Safety as a Business Owner Posted on March 18, 2022March 18, 2022 By Leigh Langston When you own a brick and mortar business you have a responsibility to keep things safe for your employees, your customers, and anyone else who may enter the building or use your products. If you aren’t able to keep people safe, it can have a profound impact on your business, and the people around you. It’s important that you remember your duty to safety so you can make sure that your business is as manageable as possible and that you keep your team comfortable and safe when they are at work. Ensure Employees Have a Safe Environment The first part of this job is making sure that your employees have a safe environment to work in. This includes all aspects of their safety including their physical and mental health. You want to promote a company culture that is supportive and welcoming to every employee. You also want to make sure that any unsafe elements of the job are well understood by every single member of your staff. The more everyone knows about being safe, the more you can work together to promote safety in the office. Protect Customers In addition to protecting your employees, you need to make sure that your customers are safe. Keeping your customers away from any unsafe elements of the business will help to reduce the likelihood of accidents. You also want to make sure that unsafe materials and potential hazards are appropriately labeled and stored so they are safely away from customers. No trespassing signs near sensitive areas help keep your business safe. Keeping customers safe should be one of your highest priorities in your business. Protect Yourself You also want to make sure that you and the business as an entity are safe. This means investing in insurance to protect your business if something does go wrong. You also want to make sure that your business is properly structured so that you will not be personally accountable for any problems at work. By protecting yourself and your business you can have more time available to focus on the work you are doing and how to improve practices. Taking care of your business and everyone who comes there is an important part of your job. You can promote safety in a variety of ways, and it will get easier as you get more familiar with the process. The more time you take to invest in safety, the better it will be for your whole company. Check out this article on how to balance family, education, and health with work! Like this:Like Loading...
