4 Absurd Stereotypes Women Are Sick of Hearing Posted on August 30, 2019February 3, 2021 By Leigh Langston When it comes to women, there is no shortage of stereotypes that continue to float around. Regardless of where these stereotypes have originated, it can be frustrating for women to be continually subjected to these fallacies. Here are four of the most absurd stereotypes that women are sick of hearing about. “Women Just Want to Get Married and Have Kids” This stereotype has been around for ages. While it may have been true a century ago, today’s modern woman certainly has goals beyond simply getting married and having children. In fact, many women are actually more career-driven than their male colleagues. In today’s society, many professional women can have it all, both in the workplace and at home. “Women Can’t Drive” Generalizations are tiresome enough when they at least reflect an aggregate reality. But when the best research points to men as the inferior drivers by a wide margin, that’s just adding insult to injury. Women are less expensive to insure because they are more cautious drivers. The reality is that women are superior drivers than their male counterparts, making this stereotype even more absurd. “It’s That Time of the Month” You would be hard-pressed to find a woman who has not heard this ridiculous stereotype. While many people want to blame the normal cycle of a woman on their emotions, that is simply not true. The genuine emotions of women should not be de-legitimized in this manner. Sometimes a woman just experiences real feelings as a result of external events that are not even closely related to hormones. “Women Are Mean” Hollywood has been guilty of portraying the mean girl stereotype that women often carry with them. In reality, most women are kind and nurturing to their fellow females. This is especially true in the workplace when women are there to cheer on those who are following in their footsteps. Women are invaluable mentors and make a point to build each other up and not tear them down, contrary to the mean girl stereotype. While it can be annoying to be subjected to these mistaken stereotypes, the best action that women can take is to hold their heads high and continue to prove the haters wrong. The more that women take care to debunk the stereotypes, the more that these fallacies will begin to fade away from the mindset. Like this:Like Loading...
