Young Industries That Could Use More Black Female Representation Posted on October 26, 2020October 24, 2020 By Leigh Langston Diversity is a huge benefit to any industry. Different opinions from varying backgrounds can help business owners provide a product that works for everyone. For example, some industries have a scarce number of Black women applying for them. If you are looking to make an impact, here are some industries that might be for you. Tech The technological schools around the country have a small number of minority students, and even fewer minority women. Only three percent of the tech industry is composed of women of color. This is a real shame. Technology has advanced so far to be integrated into every individual’s life, and companies should try to reflect this. Black women should start looking at the tech industry to see what opportunities they can find. Tech pays well and has stable job security—some work can even be done from home. If you are not sure where to start, consider online courses in coding and digital software. Cannabis and Vape Shops If you are looking to go into a business that involves less school, cannabis and vape shops have a stable and growing market. The vape industry is still very white and male, but it won’t be for long. Some key factors to this business might deter new business owners. Starting and marketing a vape shop is strictly regulated by the FDA. Legality of substances can be spotty depending on your state, and in some states, like Idaho and South Dakota, cannabis is illegal. If starting your own cannabis/vape shop is your dream, you might need to make a move. Entrepreneurship Getting involved in the entrepreneur experience is the dream for people. If you have a product idea or want to advertise on someone else’s behalf, you should consider getting in the business of business. Entrepreneurs work hard to market their products online and door-to-door. Black women can find success in this industry. You might come up with a product that others have not. You might be able to reach a demographic unique to your employer’s target. No matter who they are, entrepreneurs find a way to speak to their audience and get more sales. Find a business to get involved with if you speak the sales’ language. You have the power to make it in any industry. It may take a lot of hard work and discipline, but finding success is within your reach. Commit yourself to the proper schooling when necessary, find excellent ideas, and believe in your products, and you will go far.
