Why You Should Embrace Remote Work Posted on June 17, 2022March 18, 2023 By Leigh Langston Getting used to remote work isn’t easy at first. You need to be organized and disciplined, and you need a dedicated workspace and the ability to block out distractions. You might also miss the camaraderie of the office. But increasingly, companies are embracing remote work, and you should too. More Opportunities Often, when people are ready for a new job, they have two choices: find something close to home so they can keep stability in their family and friends or be willing to move far away and start new again. Now, there’s a third choice: remote work. With remote work, distance and time zones don’t matter. No matter where your employer is located, you can stay in your own home. This opens up your employment opportunities and allows you more choices in the work you want to do. It’s Good for Your Career Not only can you find more jobs with remote work, you can also advance in your career. This has been especially true for Black women. More than 70% of Black remote workers say they’ve made career progress during the pandemic. In working through technology, you have a chance to shine as an individual and as a team player. However, you must make an effort to communicate across all levels of the company and make sure your supervisors are aware of your accomplishments. Volunteering to take on extra responsibilities can also get you noticed. Save Money The biggest benefit of working remotely is the savings. With no commute to the office, you can save on gasoline, parking, train fare, or other transportation costs. The incidentals also add up. With that coffee you used to grab on the way to work, you might have spend #20 or more a week. You’ll also find you don’t need the wardrobe you used to have. Just keep a couple of business casual tops or a blazer to throw on for a video conference, and wear what’s comfortable. Nobody can see if you’re wearing flip flops or blue jeans. Remote work has a multitude of benefits for both employers and employees. Because of the advantages, it’s a growing trend for the future. Although switching from the office to your home workplace might take a little adjustment, you’ll soon be thriving in an environment that can boost your career in ways you may not have imagined.
