Tephra Miriam: Making Black History with Sci-fi novel – Escape to Clown Town Posted on February 16, 2018December 18, 2020 By Dangerous Lee As I view the world today through the eyes of a Black woman, I see a need for change. There are still too few Black women that are making it into places of power and influence in this country; we need them desperately. There are still too many Black women that are suffering in this country and this has to change. We have to pave the way for those behind us, and take the place of those that have bravely gone before us and fought for equality. This is the mantra that helps me brave 80 hour weeks, got me through 7 years of undergraduate and graduate work, and keeps me awake when I work late into the night. Resilience is highly underrated, yet it is necessary to stand strong in the face of endless disappointment and limited opportunity. It’s not about falling down, it’s about growing the resilience in ourselves to get back up. As an author, crafting stories has taught me resilience. Stories have the power to change lives, they transcend cultural boundaries and teach powerful lessons. This is how I will make Black history in 2018. BUT not only will I teach with my stories… I will lead by paving the way for others, through not only education but thought leadership and action. I will break down barriers. I will be resilient. I will stand strong. I will not quit. I will not be silent. This is a mantra for not only myself but for the many that face overwhelming obstacles everyday. May the world be a better place to live for all of us in 2018. What does TEPHRA MIRIAM mean? When I set out to create my enterprise I wanted a name that meant something and made an impact. Tephra = Volcanic material ejected during an eruption. Miriam = Rebellious. Tephra+Miriam = TEPHRA MIRIAM I am a force to be reckoned with. I am a positive disruption. I am a thought leader, author, graphic artist, photographer, musician, activist and entrepreneur with a passion for change. I am Tephra Miriam. Like this:Like Loading...
