How Your Black-Owned Business Can Stand Out Posted on December 26, 2019May 13, 2024 By Leigh Langston Most business owners understand the importance of employing marketing techniques that help their business stand out from the crowd. This is not always an easy feat to accomplish in today’s competitive business environment. Fortunately for Black business owners, there are a number of ways to ensure their business does not get lost in the crowd. Invest in the Community Small businesses are an important part of their local communities. It is important as a business owner to understand how the actions of your business affect the members of your community. Actions that may foster goodwill in your local community include sponsoring a little league baseball team and donating to a local homeless shelter. Additionally, Black business owners can benefit from listings in the many business directories available to Black people and other people of color. You should also think about partnering with other businesses in the directories to run connected campaigns that benefit everyone involved. Engaging Your Market When done correctly, there is no better way to retain customers than customer engagement. The manner in which you communicate with customers can set the tone for all you wish to accomplish as a business. Useful content is always appreciated by customers. You can distribute this content through blogs and social media posts. Mobile and email contact also provide great ways to ensure customers engage with the content you produce. Be sure to tailor your emails based on who you’re talking to, whether it’s an update or a sale, or some other kind of announcement. Other great ways to engage your customers include hosting events, customer loyalty programs, and soliciting customer feedback. Build a Strong Brand Branding is a great way to gain recognition for your business and shape the public perception of who you are as a company. An important part of this process is your logo. Your logo should be professionally designed and embody the values you want to be associated with your small business. You should write down the messages that are most important to your branding message and make sure your employees completely understand the message. You and your employees should also understand and keep in mind that all aspects of your business operations will affect your branding efforts. Your brand will be shaped by the way you answer the phones, what your salespeople wear, and even the signature you choose for your email correspondence. Great Service Some things are simply not complicated. The business that delivers extraordinary service to customers will be remembered. Devise a plan to deliver a level of service that none of your competitors can match. Then set the standard for your employees to consistently deliver this quality of service. The result will be customer loyalty and word of mouth recommendations that will set you apart as one of a kind performer in your industry. The world of business is growing more and more competitive with each passing day. The business owner who simply opens the doors to his business and awaits the arrival of customers is likely to be completely lost in the sea of new businesses that are started each year. The four tips above are a great place to start for Black business owners looking to set themselves apart from the competition.
