How to Run Your Business From Anywhere Posted on September 16, 2021August 14, 2023 By Leigh Langston One of the greatest innovations of modern-day technology is the ability to connect to anything you need from anywhere you are. This is part of the expansion of the online world that has also enabled business owners, like you, to get work on managing your business regardless of where you are. If you choose to run your business remotely, there are a few tips you can benefit from. Go Headquarter-less Recently a new trend has developed in the business industry, and that is the movement for companies to not set up a headquarters office. Previously, businesses used headquarters as a general meeting point for the affairs of the business. The headquarters would also act as the main offices for the business leaders like the CEO and house other management branches like Human Resources. If anyone needed to mail something to your business, headquarters would be the address. All of this aside, your business does not actually need this central location anymore. Many of these functions can be accomplished online and will save you money if you do not have to rent an office building. Find Co-working Space Although your business might not have a headquarters, it does not mean that your employees need to work separately. Many employees benefit from a co-working space where they can interact and collaborate with each other. As an added benefit, this can also help boost employee morale because they are not confined to working alone in their homes. However, if you are looking to save money or keep privacy in your own home, a co-working space might not be the right option for you. You can still meet for business lunches or in rented meeting rooms if there is something you need to discuss in person and as a group. Hire Trusted Employees In order for your company to be as productive as possible, even when you cannot directly supervise your employees. The best way to accomplish this goal is by hiring self-sufficient employees. You do not want employees who will waste company time just because they are allowed to work from home. If you want productive employees, it all starts with the hiring process. In the interview, you need to narrow down which employees you can trust and which ones you cannot. Once hired, you can have a trial period where you can track their productivity before they are hired full-time. These steps will help you to grow a powerful and self-sufficient workforce. Work From Home Instead of working in an office, most people will opt for working from home. You do not need to spend money on an additional workspace, and you do not need to commute before you start your workday. If you plan on working from home, you should set up a specific space fully for you to work. This can be a spare room that you turn into an office or just a desk in the corner of a room. You can even change up where you work based on the weather. A deck is the perfect place to relax and enjoy fresh air as you work. Connecting Online Since many companies have opted to move to a remote setting for work, there are also growing options for connecting as a company virtually. One option you can use is a collaboration system that allows your employees to work on projects together and even share calendar events. This will keep everyone on the same track as far as what is going on in the business and what still needs to be done. Another online tool that is growing in popularity is virtual meeting applications. These help your whole business to meet at once instead of traveling to meet in person or create a long chain of emails. Stick To a Schedule When people do not have to go into an office from 9 to 5, it can be difficult for them to be productive. For that reason, if you plan to work remotely, you can only achieve success by creating a schedule. Using the standard work time of 9 to 5, you should use that time to accomplish as much as you can by prioritizing your to-do list. After those hours, you need to make sure that you take time for yourself and your family. This does not mean that you cannot answer the occasional email, but your priorities need to shift after work hours. Create a Work Uniform Many people make the mistake of wearing whatever they want when they do not have to go into the office to work. If you want your time working at home to be as productive as possible, you should dress the part, even if no one will see you. However, you do not need to wear a suit every single day. Still, you should put in a little more effort than working in your pajamas. By dressing up for work, you are signaling to yourself that you are going to get work done instead of lounging around all day. On a similar note, you should not work solely from your bed and instead work on a table or desk. Track Work Expenses As the business owner, you have the main responsibility of paying taxes for the company. You are also supposed to track how much your employees are getting paid so that they can have this information for tax season. While most of these are self-explanatory, there are some steps you might forget about. For example, you can write off business-related expenses from your taxes at the end of the year. However, that means you would need to keep track of expenses throughout the entire year. This includes any technology you need to purchase, office supplies, or even sometimes the cost of travel. Managing a business remotely can take more work than you initially expected. That said, if you put in the time and focus on working hard during work hours, you can enjoy more flexibility later. All you have to do is make the choice to be connected as a business virtually. Read this next: 3 Inventive Ways to Brand Your Black Owned Business Like this:Like Loading...
