How to Make a Living After Leaving a 9-to-5 Career Posted on January 7, 2022January 7, 2022 By Leigh Langston If you’re considering being part of the Great Resignation, chances are that you’ve been dissatisfied at your job for a while. Pandemic and quarantines haven’t helped, and especially women are having difficulty going back to the workplace if their children have been home schooled or virtual schooled. In short: you’ve been wanting a change for a while. But is it possible? Can you really make a living after leaving a 9-to-5 career grind? Chances are you’ve already done some freelance work already, as well. Freelance can be complicated but profitable, as there are many different projects which all want your attention. You have to learn to stay on top of multiple tasks as a freelancer. If you are good at being your own project manager, and juggling a lot of varied tasks, this could be the career for you! Not Your Passion, but your Side-Passion Unless you’ve stored enough to retire or are independently wealthy, you are going to need to stay working, of course. It can be tempting to choose a favorite hobby to be your new career, but many experts say this is not a good decision. When your hobby becomes your career, it becomes a money making project which, often, loses its savor and enjoyment. The last thing you need is that! While you might not want to do your hobby as your career, your overall goal should be finding something which suits your interests, stimulates your mind, and makes your days bearable. Leaving a 9-to-5 career is a big step, and not a little intimidating. But if you work hard and choose something you do enjoy, your interest and joy for it will shine through.
