How To Keep Your Company’s Parking Lot Safe Posted on April 1, 2021November 12, 2024 By Leigh Langston Parking lots are something of necessary trouble for brick-and-mortar businesses. We all need them to retain easy accessibility to our physical location. However, more goes into a well-kept lot than most people would assume. One of the most important details of lot maintenance is managing security. How to keep your company’s parking lot safe is a question every entrepreneur must ask themselves when planning lot care. While there are many creative ways to take care of a lot and keep it risk-free, every business should investigate three main factors. Maximize Visibility Regardless of operation hours, every business needs to ensure lots stay visible. Primarily this means adding working lights—ideally ones with automated timers that activate at sunset. Lights can reduce the chance of suspicious activity by as much as 35 percent. In other words, anyone accessing the building at night or even passing through your lot can do so quickly, safely, and without anxiety. Quality lighting is especially important if a night crew is expected to work on the premises after dark. Even with a business fully shut down at night, lighting is a good idea to simply deter loitering. Properly Maintained One of the best ways to keep customers safe in your lot is to keep it in excellent condition. Broken curbs, potholes, and loose fixtures are major hazards that can cause physical harm to your customers and their vehicles. Avoid unhappy customers and potential lawsuits by lovingly maintaining a beautiful and neat lot. When the time comes, don’t hesitate to replace, repave, and repair portions of your lot. Or, perhaps you could repave all of it. In addition to this, traffic jams and accidents can be better avoided with proper marking and signage. Replace worn or damaged signs and keep lot striping bright and visible. Emphasize Security Measures How to keep your company’s parking lot safe ultimately comes down to making security initiatives clear. While we all hope no shenanigans occur in our lots, anything can happen. Especially at odd times of day, areas of the lot that are difficult to see, or less-trafficked spots. To always keep the whole lot safe, inform everyone involved that safety is prioritized. Train employees to follow company procedures when dealing with customers. Remind customers of the expectations the business has, such as ones that involve safety announcements. Finally, utilize practical techniques such as clear signage and visible security cameras. The presence of digital eyes help dissuades suspicious activity by as much as 50 percent. Like this:Like Loading...
