These thoughts and beliefs lead some single mothers to give up and use single parenting as an excuse, or justification, or as a reason to hold themselves back. The book is designed to provide resources and first-hand experiences for other single mothers who are adjusting to the pressures of single parenting. By Choice or By Design The authors have provided readers with a better understanding and mindfulness of the challenge single mothers deal with daily. About Dr. Brenda Brown Dr. Brenda Brown is an educator and bestselling author. She has written and co-authored two books, “The Day I Forgot But Will Always Remember (Living with Sudden Cardiac Arrest)” and “Prayer Can Change Everything” (Compiled by Telishia Berry). She was born in Flint, MI, where she attended Flint Public Schools. At the age of 11, she moved to Otisville, MI, where she attended Lakeville Public Schools. She retired from Baker College after 27 years of service in 2019. She is a single mother of three and grandmother of seven. She is an identical twin and one of 10 living siblings. Though she encountered many hurdles — racial, social, economic, and health — she persevered, earning an associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and then doctoral degree. Though she is not one for confrontation: She is a fighter. In August 2016, she fought her way back — surviving Sudden Cardiac Arrest and is a strong voice to educate others about the medical condition. Her faith serves as a strong foundation.
