Beginner Tips for Growing Natural Hair Posted on June 1, 2021July 20, 2021 By Leigh Langston Growing your natural hair can be overwhelming for beginners. From the multitude of styling products to protective styles and ways to mitigate damage to your hair, there’s a lot to consider. Here are beginner tips for growing natural hair. Uniqueness Comparing your hair to anyone else’s will do you no favors. Every head of hair is unique: the texture, length, density, or porosity. When you’re beginning the journey with natural hair, the most crucial step is to understand that everyone’s hair reacts to products differently. The key is to find out what products work for you. Moisturize Moisturizing your hair will keep it happy and healthy. Moisture reduces breakage, adds softness, and improves manageability. Depending on your hair’s porosity, you might need a crème, oil, or water-based moisturizer. Weekly deep conditioning will also protect the health of your natural hair and maintain your edges. Washing your hair in sections will reduce tangles and breakage. Scalp Massages Hair growth begins at our scalps, and increasing blood flow helps. Scalp massages can help promote hair growth and thickness. Gently massaging your scalp for a few minutes every day will increase circulation and lead to healthier and thicker locks. Regular Trims One of the essential beginner tips for growing natural hair is to tend to any damage from straightening or relaxers. Trimming away damaged hair or split ends will promote hair growth. Incorporate regular trims, as well, to maintain healthy hair. Protective Styles If you’re looking to maintain your length, occasionally putting your hair in protective styles like braids or a short bun can be beneficial. Keeping your hair in styles that aren’t too tight will reduce breakage or friction, as tight hairstyles can damage edges and follicles. Having a natural hairstyle can be freeing.
