It’s currently legal recreationally in 17 states and 36 states medically in the U.S. However, it’s not legal on a federal level and that’s what causes a lot of the fuss and controversy. To celebrate 420 we asked Black women who smoke weed recreationally why they smoke and all the benefits they get from the healing plant. Do you smoke? Leave a comment and tell us what you love about weed! I smoke cannabis recreationally because I prefer it to a glass of wine I smoke cannabis recreationally because I prefer it to a glass of wine at the end of a workday. I know it won’t leave me feeling hungover, and I have the option between THC and CBD. I enjoy both, but I especially love that during the day, I can smoke CBD and still get work done. It’s really nice to have both options depending on the cannabis experience I want.Ivy Summer – Consultant with 5 years in Cannabis Industry I use a vape pen during the day to help alleviate stress and anxiety I started using cannabis topically six years ago. I have a nursing background and realized the health benefits of the plant after researching it. I wasn’t interested in getting “high” so a topical was a great place to begin. After I got involved in the industry I slowly started using edibles at night to help me sleep, and a vape pen during the day to help alleviate stress and anxiety.Marvina Thomas – Founder of 420 Skincare and 420 Medibles I incorporate smoking into my life ritualistically I have been on this journey since freshmen year of college, a soft six years ago, more so to hang with friends and experience a part of life that I could not entertain while living at home. Post college, I incorporate smoking into my life ritualistically. Shower time for myself is meditative and allows me to connect with the creative parts of my brain that I cannot as readily access during the work hours. I usually smoke before then focus on the sensation of this time alone, the water, my body, the joy of being alive and reflect on my day. On wash days, the process is therapeutic and grounding which I find to be the most important benefit of it all. Connecting to my mind and body without anxiety is rare for me and smoking opens a door into myself that feels locked by the systems of working and self-representation. The more time I spend with myself after smoking, I see myself being more confident in my body and my own beauty as a fact of life and not subjective.Paige Bryan – Assistant Account Executive The herb helps alleviate my chronic arthritic pain and ease my anxiety I’ve been smoking cannabis recreationally since 2006.
