Tangela Walker-Craft: Making Public Breastfeeding Comfortable With The GoPillow Posted on April 19, 2018April 19, 2018 By Dangerous Lee The GoPillow is Simply Necessary I was very intentional when designing the logo for my company. Simply Necessary, Incorporated is female owned and pink has always been my favorite color. The logo’s “S” mimics the Superman “S” because we are superwomen. The dot over the “I” in Simply is actually an “E” and a backward “C” to represent my daughter and husband’s initials. The E, A, and Y in Necessary are pink because they are my daughter’s initials. The saying, “necessity is the mother of invention” turned out to be appropriate in my case. My desire to make public breastfeeding easier and more discreet without sacrificing comfort motivated me to invent and patent a multipurpose breastfeeding pillow. I realized that a retractable privacy blanket would distinguish my idea for a wearable, portable breastfeeding pillow from any other nursing pillow on the market. The built-in privacy cover-up earned me a patent, and turned the GoPillow into multipurpose baby gear! Moms reached out to me from all over the world once I founded my company and launched the GoPillow on the Simply Necessary, Incorporated website. They had never seen a breastfeeding pillow that was portable and that also provided privacy for public breastfeeding. The GoPillow Goes Worldwide Because of the positive feedback from a variety of mothers, I was determined to make my invention available worldwide. I soon learned, however, that without a more established distributor it would be difficult to make the GoPillow available outside of the United States. I needed to license the GoPillow to a worldwide distributor. I wanted to work with a company that understood that mothers and caregivers would love my product if they could see all of its uses. It took several years, but I found a company that was well-suited to market and distribute the GoPillow. I reached out to Kushies Baby because the company operated in both Canada and the United States, and I liked the company’s mission statement. A company representative contacted me shortly after receiving a message from me. She and I developed a dialogue. I eventually convinced her that there’s no pillow like the GoPillow! She agreed to personally pitch the GoPillow to the owner of the company. She was able to convince him to add the GoPillow to their product line as the Kushies GoPillow. My mom-invented breastfeeding pillow went from being a local novelty to a worldwide baby care product thanks to a licensing agreement between my company (Simply Necessary, Incorporated) and Kushies Baby! _______________ The Kushies GoPillow is a: ▪Wearable, portable cradle pillow ▪Breastfeeding pillow with a built-in privacy cover ▪Pillow and swaddling wrap for babies ▪Toddler pillow with an attached travel blanket ▪Travel pillow The Kushies GoPillow makes breastfeeding and bottle feeding more comfortable, with or without a built-in privacy blanket. It fits on the arm of many airplanes to be used as a travel pillow.
