Most Common Workplace Injuries Posted on July 16, 2021July 16, 2021 By Leigh Langston With how much time some of us spend in the workplace, there is no surprise that there are extreme workplace-related injuries. While some of these may hurt more than others, all of them can lead to a lessened lifestyle. In some cases, it is best to know what to look out for while you work, as many companies take active steps to reduce workplace injury. In other cases, knowing what injuries commonly occur in the workplace can give insight into what one should and shouldn’t try to do while at work. To help with this, here are some of the most common workplace injuries. Slip, Trips, and Falls Especially common in the food service industry, slips, trips, and falls are some of the more dangerous accidents in the workplace—depending on how the person slips or falls and what they fall on. In either case, the best way to prevent these types of injuries is to ensure that a work area is hazard-free and properly label all slippery areas. Muscle Strain Another common injury in the workplace is the muscle strain type of injury. These mainly occur from a worker lifting a heavy object improperly. Back and neck strain is the most common of all muscle strains. Having equipment such as a back brace or weight belt can help with preventing injuries. However, the best way to avoid them is to train proper lifting techniques in the first place. Cuts and Lacerations There are all sorts of instruments capable of leaving cuts in a worker’s hands and arms: for example, a box cutter or office scissors. It comes as no surprise that these are some of the most common injuries sustained in the workplace. The easiest way to prevent cuts in the workplace is to keep sharp objects put away so that no one can cut themselves accidentally. Repetitive Strain Injury The last and most common of injuries to take place in office spaces is repetitive strain injury. Typically arriving in carpel tunnel, these repetitive strain injuries result from extended periods of improper posture or repetitive action. Many government resources can help you figure out the best ways to reduce carpal tunnel in the workplace. No matter your injury, seek professional help and work with your employer to decide how to keep it from happening again. It’s essential not only to you but to everyone at the company. We hope that you have gained enough knowledge in the most common workplace injuries to help educate the coworkers around you! Like this:Like Loading...
