Management Mistakes That Impact Employee Productivity Posted on March 22, 2021May 12, 2022 By Leigh Langston Every business is always searching for ways to improve their company’s work ethic and to raise worker morale. But there are times when management makes mistakes that impact employee productivity in a negative way. To increase worker satisfaction and to have greater business efficiency, consider what you are doing as a company and see if there are aspects you need to change. Lack of Transparency It is all too common for an employee to not feel invested in the company they work for. They can feel as though they are just another cog in the machine, and many times this, is because they have no insight into the behind-the-scenes mechanics of the business. Include Workers in Company Knowledge While not every employee should be aware of every aspect of the business, you should be transparent with the company’s goals, its successes, its shortcomings, and how the employee’s actions affect the company at large. Disseminating this knowledge can be done either through meetings or by email. Inflexible Scheduling It has been common practice that companies operate from nine in the morning until five in the evening. If not that time, then there is some form of rigid schedule that every employee is expected to adhere to; failure to do so can result in disciplinary actions up to and including termination. Flexibility While that style may work for many, there are also many other workers who can excel be just simply relaxing the rules of scheduling. This does not mean that an employee can show up when they feel like it, but offering them a window to clock in can give them a schedule that they are comfortable with. Not Encouraging Breaks There are some employees who do not feel comfortable with taking breaks during the day. They may work through their allotted free time and not have time away from the job until they clock out for the day. Situations like this can lead to worker burnout and feelings of stress that can follow them home. Foster a Relaxed Atmosphere Find ways to encourage employees to take breaks and let them know that it is fine to do so. Short breaks at regular intervals can greatly increase worker productivity, focus, and job satisfaction. It gives them time to decompress and revitalizes them for the remainder of the day ahead. An Open Environment At the core of the management mistakes that impact employee productivity is that the worker is not recognized. When you give them a place to feel comfortable and you let them know that they are seen and their concerns are heard, then their motivation to succeed increases. Like this:Like Loading...
