Happy 9th Anniversary Keep Your Panties Up and Your Skirt Down!!! Nine years ago today I self-published my first book, Keep Your Panties Up and Your Skirt Down. I remember being on such a high as well as being extremely proud of myself for finally writing and publishing my first book. I became an author! I was no longer just a writer. Keep Your Panties Up and Your Skirt Down is an anthology that includes six short erotic stories with an emphasis on HIV education. The book is dedicated to my grandmother, who passed away the year before, and the title of the book is something that she would always say to me and my female cousins as we were growing up. “Keep Your Panties Up and Your Skirt Down” = Don’t Have Sex! Grandma was telling me to not have sex and not to sleep around at a time when it was the farthest thing from my mind. I became sexually active later than most and even then I wasn’t hiking my skirt up or off like a wild child but I did get an STD along the way. Teaching sexual health is much more important and more logical than teaching abstinence. Is HIV a Black Disease? I became passionate about HIV prevention after watching the ABC news special Out of Control: AIDS in Black America. At the time the book was published I was working as a certified HIV prevention specialist and testing counselor, so I was immersed in work on sexuality, safer sex practices, HIV facts, and HIV myths. The ABC special revealed how and why HIV is a virus that disproportionately affects Black people but it is preventable, so I decided to combine my love for writing and my passion for HIV prevention into a book of short stories. New York Times Bestseller Two years prior to publishing KYPUAYSD, my short erotic story Til Death Do Us Part was featured in Zane’s Succulent: Chocolate Flava 2. It became a New York Times Bestseller, so I was still on a high from that experience and at the time I thought erotica was where my future lied as an author. I started a heavy online and offline promotional book tour that didn’t officially end until two years later in 2012! A song was recorded to accompany the book as well as merchandise and the trailer for the book was airing on FOX66 every night. It was a special time! Keep Your Panties Up and Your Skirt Down Highlights Book trailer Theme Song I had a special dress created to wear for my official book release party, created by costume designer, Christina Tomlinson. The Black AIDS Institute added Keep Your Panties Up and Your Skirt Down to their library Marty Embry (Author) – The book was the sh*$! The stories were awesome and the real deal. Your book is definitely an eye-opener and should serve as a reminder that the last thing a person has to worry about is pregnancy! This book should serve as a reminder to simply cap it before you tap it! I loved how each story unraveled and how each was completely different and will make you sit back and question the person that is laying next to you! This is a must read! Thank you for being you! I’ll see you at the top! READ MORE REVIEWS Type your email… Subscribe Join 2,313 other subscribers Like this:Like Loading...
