(Photo by Afro American Newspapers/Gado/Getty Images) Black Women Voting Black women vote and we tend to make a huge impact for the betterment of all people at the polls. The 2018 midterms will be no different. According to a poll conducted by gobranded.com, 59% of Black women will or have already voted in the 2018 midterms. Black Women Not Voting I am a Black women who will not be voting in the 2018 midterms for the reasons highlighted in blue below. I recently went into more detail about my reasons for choosing to not vote anymore in a piece titled I Will No Longer Be Rockin’ The Vote. A reader left a comment “informing” me that it’s sad I’m not voting because our votes count, so much is at stake now, and our ancestors died for us to have the right. We also have the right NOT to vote and if we aren’t going to vote with some damn sense we certainly should stay at home. But that would be too much like right. Just this past week I saw a Black woman bragging online that she was going to vote red because she is conservative and the videos of Trump’s Black supporters make me wanna vomit. Fine, be conservative (whatever that really means varies) but be informed when you go to the polls. A Black woman or man voting red is pure insanity! You’re voting against your own interests. Your vote pisses the ancestors off. You’re part of the problem. It’s not just a Black thang of course, more than 50% of White women also voted against their interests in the last presidential election. Conservative, My Ass! adjective: conservative holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation, typically in relation to politics or religion. Source: Dictionary.com Traditional is an ugly word to me when used in certain context. It says to me that you’re someone who clings to ideas or methods that have been proven to be false or proven to not work. You’re a fool in many ways and you’re blissfully ignorant. Some would call it – stuck on stupid. This is not to say that voting blue or for any other party is without its issues but this is where “picking the lesser of evils” comes into play. I am tired of that game. I’d rather bow out entirely. The current system runs on the lie of White supremacy and will never work for us. It’s not supposed to. The fact that we’re still fighting for equality in 2018 is a testament to that fact. Blind Faith Black women and men who are out here proudly admitting to voting red because of their religious beliefs, for example, just shows how ignorant they are to the party they stan for. Stop being willfully ignorant, ingest facts, research your party, and learn to separate your conservative religious beliefs from your politics. But that would be like asking people to let go of the glue that holds their life together. I digress. We’re screwed. Poll: Do you plan to vote in the U.S. midterm election? Total U.S. African American Women Yes, I plan to vote or have already voted in the midterms 58.6% No, I don’t plan to vote because getting to the polls isn’t convenient 13.2% No, I don’t plan to vote because I don’t care about politics 8.9% No, I don’t plan to vote because I don’t think it makes a difference 7.4% No, I don’t plan to vote because I don’t believe in the system 6.7% No, I don’t plan to vote because I don’t favor any of the candidates 5.2% Poll conducted by GoBranded.com for Black Girls Allowed.
