8 Things Your Home Needs for Cozy Winter Days Posted on November 30, 2021March 20, 2024 By Leigh Langston Winter is almost upon us, and this means that cold days will be preventing some of the outdoor activities you might have enjoyed in the summertime. Even if you love winter sports, you need to thaw out sometimes. This means that you need the warm and soft environment created for relaxation and peaceful winter days. What do you need to promote those peaceful days? And what can keep you nicely cozy during the coldest weather? A Fireplace Fire is a primordial need for humanity, which protected throughout all of history, and kept humanity capable of surviving long winters until spring reappeared. Having a fireplace in your home, whether it’s gas powered or refueled with logs or pellets, fire is a soothing element for a homestead. It’s critical to follow safety rules for having a fireplace. However, there’s nothing so delightful as having smores in your living room! Your fireplace can add, with a little assistance, heating opportunity to your home as well, and can be a central focal point for your home. Warm Blankets Incorporating blankets into your décor is nothing new. There are a myriad of options to choose from, with both heirloom and modern styles. You should choose something which is both beautiful and which has a texture that pleases you. After all, there’s no point in having a really beautiful blanket that is not warm, or which has a texture you or your family don’t like. Hand knit and crocheted items are very on trend, but if you’re not making them yourself, they can be quite expensive. Make sure to pay artists for the long hours it takes to make such beautiful items! Winter Décor Many families love to have special décor for winter. Some prefer things associated with winter itself, like snowflakes and snowy villages. Others celebrate the myriad holidays that arrive in the coldest months, from Christmas and Hannaukah to Joli, Kwanzaa, Yule, Soyal and La Posadas! This gives you a wide range of décor options and colors to choose from to bring the specific religious and cultural needs of your own family into your home! If you have young children, it’s a great time to learn about the holidays of those who don’t share your own traditions as well! Hot Chocolate There’s nothing like cocoa for the warmest winter months! There are a multitude of variations which can be delicious to your family. Cocoa has so many positive memories attached to it for most, including being enjoyed after outdoor winter play. Choose cocoas which please you—local specialty items like Stephens have wonderful varieties, but in a pinch, you can make your own! This way you can customize how much cream, chocolate, and cocoa you will need for your own tastes, and whether you want to add peppermint or orange flavoring. Don’t forget to use a coaster while sitting by the fire–direct contact with hot items can harm wood furniture. A Spa Wrap Not quite a heating pad, and not quite an electric blanket, a spa wrap is a wonderful addition to your living areas! They can often be purchased with funds from your FHA at the end of the year, as well. Spa wraps are like a small electric blanket specific to draping over your shoulder or lap. They are wonderful for use at cold desks also! If you have older family members, or those who shiver even when wearing three layers, this is the perfect gift for them! It’s hard to remain cold when wrapped in your specific chosen temperature! A Crock Pot Crockpots are wonderful regardless of the time of year, but especially during winter months. Why? They are so versatile. Whether heating up milk for the hot cocoa your family craves, or mulling cider, they’re perfect for parties. Soups and casseroles also cook beautifully in crockpots, which gives you a chance to sit by the fire during cooking times and enjoy being warm in your blankets! Many stews and soups that you think of as being part of the winter months are easily adaptable to crockpot cooking, which can save you both time and effort. Even better, gone are the days of your crockpot choices being “tiny” and “giant.” There are many versions, some of which can be transferred to a stove top or oven if necessary to finish cooking. Warm Slippers If the rest of your body is warm and your feet are still freezing, you’re just not going to be comfortable. Look for slippers that suit your weather. For example, if you live in the balmy South, you might not need as much fleece lining as if you’re in Minnesota! Layering with fleece socks can keep you toasty warm and make a great change from outdoor shoes, which can track mud, dirt, and snow into the house during winter months in specific. A Great Book Click here to purchase. Everybody thinks they’re going to read during the summer months, but most happily soak up the sun at the beach without remembering to crack open that spine. Winter, though, is the perfect time to put down your phone and the remote, and enjoy excellent reading by the fire. Think outside of the box—if you love puzzles, for example, use a great service like Hoopla from your library to borrow audio books for free, and enjoy while sewing, crafting, or relaxing by the fire’s warmth and being wrapped in a toasty blanket. There are so many amazing titles which have come out in the past few months, and they’re all ready for your winter enjoyment! Winter can be fun, but only if you’re warm enough. Use the right techniques to stay warm and wrapped nicely, and enjoy your comfy home. Delineate winter months by slight changes in décor, and your own preferences. Get dinner started and bubbling in a crockpot, with some cocoa in your hand. Put on your slippers, and wrap yourself in a blanket or spa wrap. Then, curl up by the fireplace with a great book, and let your coziness intensify! Read this next: Black Women Owned Fashion Brands Ready To Dress You Up Like this:Like Loading...
