Touched by Fire: When Pain Births Art

Touched by Fire: When Pain Births Art

Recently, I read about Rebecca Burghardt and was very moved by her art, her life, and her challenges with that life and the art that was birthed in her, to be shared with the rest of us, in spite of those challenges.

I was reminded of a curator talk that we attended at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art a few years ago and learned about Salvador Dali. I will never forget a question from a group, asking about the pain in the lives of artist and whether or not that inspires their art even more. I have been keenly aware, ever since, of not only an artist’s work, but their lives and what shapes them to be who they are, and, as a result, the art.

The Art Lover and the Self-Expressing Artist

The Art Lover and the Self-Expressing Artist

I’ve been thinking recently about art, and the expanse of the topic called “art.” Now mind you, I have told you before that I am not an art student but rather a lover of art. What do I mean by “lover of art?” Well let me put it to you in these terms… Lover of [...]

Tracie Koziura: Artist and Philanthropist

Tracie Koziura: Artist and Philanthropist

Ms. Koziura is not only an exceptional artist, but she is also an exceptional person. She inspires me in the way that she uses art to help charities. Her portraits, one of which is shown in this article, are sold and a portion of the proceeds are given to the charities favored by the subject of the portrait.

Global Art Calendar: January – March 2012

Global Art Calendar: January – March 2012

The following is a list of Art events for the first quarter of 2012 (January-March). This list will contain some of the same events as earlier calendars, when the event is still ongoing.

The goal is to be as diversified as possible, different regions, different cultures, different mediums and media. So, please, send over any events that you may know of, so they can be considered for the next calendar.

Jo-Ann Dziubek-MacDonald: Resonating Realism

Ms. Dziubek-MacDonald says it best, in her own words, when she says that “painting with watercolor and mixed media is [her] passion.” You can certainly see this in her artwork. The painting of the sunflowers reminds me of the sunflowers I used to watch as a child, fields of them. This fine art is painted so wonderfully that I feel as if I can reach out and touch the sunflowers and feel the wind blow through the flower in my hand.

Ms. Dziubek-MacDonald has done such a good job of interpreting what is around her and in her, and sharing that with us. Please learn, with me, a little bit about this wonderful woman.

Starting Your Art Collection

It is no small secret that I enjoy attending auctions by Park West Gallery. I was first introduced to them via a cruise that we took a few years ago. Park West Gallery provides not only the art, but much more. You have a chance to meet wonderful people, network with other art lovers, drink [...]

Why I Love Art ♥

There is a certain soothing aspect of art, especially when we allow ourselves to feel the vulnerabilities of our human frailty. Art has the ability to reach in and touch those vulnerabilities and give us wings. It is an expression of the artist, one that we can feel within ourselves, if we give it a chance. Art evokes a response. It does not have to be a happy response, it can be an angry response, but it touches the humanity… if we let it.

Heather Haymart: Inspirational Indulgences

“I choose to work as an abstract artist because I love the idea of deciphering what a person is saying when they use color and texture as a language. It is such a great feeling when someone can “read” what I am expressing in my painting based on intuition and instinct.” – Heather Haymart

Kylie Fowler: Blissful Pumpkin

I love the name of Ms. Fowler’s web site, ‘Blissful Pumpkin.” I couldn’t resist using it in the title of her interview. But more than that, her artwork is to love! Who can resist the color and playfulness of her Angel painting, or the detail and depth in her portraits. And, this from such a busy wife and Mum! Where does she find the time? Gaze with me, at her art and the person behind the art, as she tells us a bit about herself here.

ET: Doodle Delectation

ET’s doodles can’t help but entertain you and start you craving more. To say that ET is talented is an understatement! Her designs are delightful!
