Key Fashion Trends For Spring/Summer 2013

Spring is less than a month away and it’s time to start thinking about the new trends that you could incorporate into your personal style next season. From chic monochrome and Japan-inspired pieces to summery floral prints and low-heeled shoes, discover the S/S key trends!

Bomber Jackets

Bomber Jackets are lightweight and don’t take much space – they’re the perfect jacket for the Spring/Summer season. You can wear it on the chilly summer mornings and just keep it in your bag when it gets warmer.

Stella McCartney and Jonathan Saunders presented relaxed bomber jackets inspired in sporty silhouettes, whilst Christopher Kane wowed everyone with his reinterpretation of this classic piece.

What’s a spring without flowers? Floral prints have become a S/S staple for many designers and this season they’re presented in sweet and subtle patterns.

Erdem presented a collection where pastels and florals created a whimsical experience and French designer Isabel Marant’s collection featured boho-inspired pieces with a 70’s feeling.

Black and white dominated the catwalks last September. Monochrome is the new season’s must-trend and was present in almost every single designer’s collections.

Louis Vuitton’s use of standout checks proves that matching black and white doesn’t have to be boring and for his first collection for Saint Laurent, Hedi Slimane also decided to feature monochrome patterns.

Japan and China have always been a great source of inspiration for many designers. This season, the likes of Etro, Prada and Christopher Kane have included in their collections different pieces following this trend – think of creep up kimonos, silky shirts and cherry blossom prints!

Peplum dominated the catwalk a couple of seasons ago, now ruffles and frills take the spotlight. Forget about less is more because this season it’s all about going big!

Flamenco-inspired dresses and skirts in this season’s colour palette were featured at Gucci and Balenciaga’s shows, whilst Ricardo Tisci at Givenchy decided to give this trend a twist, featuring big frills in the neck area.

Low-heeled shoes

Your feet don’t need to suffer this season. Low-heeled pointy shoes matched with ladylike bags are the perfect accessories to channel 50’s classic style. Wear them with cropped trousers or pencil skirts for an extra spring chic touch.

Anna Sui featured love-inspired shoes in red with heart details and French fashion emporium Lanvin provides leather pumps featuring plastic tortoiseshell bows.
