Seasonal Citrus Skincare

Citrus fruit is not only good for your insides! You can use it to create delicious, simple and effective skincare without the price tag often associated with high end beauty products. Plus, it is in the shops all year round meaning you can make these gorgeous recipes any time you like.

Lemon Cleanser
According to Skin Care Resource Centres’ Sue Doan M.Ed who is also the author of ‘Naturally Skinsational: Rejuvenating Skin Care Recipes’, lemons possess high natural levels of AHAs or Alpha Hydroxy Acids. She says: “AHA is found in many natural skin care recipes for…cleansing…toning and exfoliating the skin.”

You will need:
• 1/8 cups of sugar
• 2 tablespoons of milk
• 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
Mix together and cleanse the skin gently in a circular motion starting at the chin and up to the forehead. Rinse with warm water.

Skin-Revitalizing Orange Peel
The AHAs and vitamin C found in oranges have been clinically proven to prevent fine lines and decrease wrinkles.

You will need:
• 1 egg yolk
• 1 teaspoon honey
• 1 tablespoon of an oranges’ juice
• 1 packet of gelatin
The yolk is moisturizing and firming, the honey is moisturizing and the acid of an orange is great for sloughing away dead skin and stimulating new cell production.

Grapefruit Sugar Scrub
Grapefruit is used in creams to alleviate inflammation in conditions such as acne, impetigo and rashes. The unique bioflavonoids in grapefruit, also known as phytochemicals help promote the skins’ health.

You will need:
• ¾ cup of organic sugar
• ¼ cup fresh grapefruit juice
• 1 tablespoon of oil (grapeseed/olive)
• 1 tablespoon of honey
This is great for your hands, feet, body and face. Follow with warm water to remove the excess dead skin and dirt that it will remove from your skin.

While it is easy to pick up a pot of scrub, cleanser or moisturizer from the shops, it is cheaper and better for you to simply make it yourself. Plus this way, you can guarantee it to be chemical free! Perfect for healthy skin.
