How to Wear Leggings to Flatter Your Body

No two people have identical bodies. Everyone has those problem spots that they would like to change. From dimples and bulges to body parts that are too skinny, no matter what your size there is probably something that bugs you. For some people with these body issues the idea of wearing leggings can create fear and anxiety, well fear no more. Leggings can be worn by anyone and anyone can look good in leggings. Just a few considerations must be kept in mind when purchasing what I am sure will become a consistent part of your look.

 Fix your weave.

Some leggings are made from materials that are thinner and have a looser knit than others have. These leggings are not the best option for full figured women or those with problem areas as they can actually accentuate them. The thinner material will hug the skin and every bump, dimple, or sag will become clearly visible. Instead choose a thicker Lycra or cotton material, this will help to smooth and shape your body.

Color me gorgeous.

Color is a very important factor. This cannot be stressed enough. Essentially, you can wear any color that you want and there is an entire range of colors out there from which to choose. If you want a slimming effect, choose:

  • Black is safe and versatile. It can be worn with any other colors that you choose and help to create the illusion of thinner thighs and a prettier posterior.
  • Go with monochromatic options. These pairing will hide the spots you hate and create long beautiful lines.
  •  If you need to spice things up a bit, vertical pin striping can create length and slim you.

For those of you who want to appear a little less skinny:

  • For you black is a no-no. If you insist on wearing black legging though, pair them with a top that will draw attention away from the legs.
  • Bright colors can add the illusion of thickness.
  • Horizontal striping can also help you appear as if there is more “meat on your bones”.

Do not let it all hang out!

You need to be sure that your butt is covered, literally. Pair your leggings with tunic style tops, mini skirts, or a short dress. Fitted sweaters are another good option. If the sweater is too big you run the risk of looking like you belong at home lounging. In addition, avoid tops that are too tight or you will look way more 80’s than is desirable. Flowing options are the perfect choice for any body type. The skimming effect does not give it all away and looks sexy and sultry.

Now when someone tells you that you cannot wear tights you can tell him or her where to go and what to do when they get there. By following these guidelines, you can be rocking tights and looking stylish in no time.
