Is Avatar the New Star Wars?

Motorcycle Details

James Cameron seems to be confusing fans around the world by making announcements regarding one of his most popular films, Avatar. After briefly mentioning details regarding his plans of releasing Avatar’s sequel, the film maker mentioned “I haven’t really written anything about the movie, but the basic idea is that the film will be about the first expeditions to Pandora; it will also touch upon the topic of what went wrong between human beings and the Na’vi and what was it like to be an explorer in that world. Because when we got to the project, we knew the movies would span across 35 years. That will complete an arc and if that leads into more, we’ll start, not imitating Star Wars, but it’s a logical thing to do because we’ll have completed the thematic arc by the end of the three. The only thing left to do is go back to see what it was like on those first expeditions and create some new characters that then become legacy characters in later films”.

Avatar sequels still a long way off.

However, Avatar fans around the world will have to be patient, as Cameron still hasn’t mentioned a date for the fourth film of the saga. The four films represent a very ambitious plan, even for the film maker, who is known to make the most ambitious films in Hollywood. Cameron is now talking about a film that is still on his mind and won’t enter pre production stage for at least 4 or 5 years. However, Cameron has assured that Avatar’s sequels will most likely be easier to film than the first movie: “It was a hideously complex process to make Avatar, and a lot has been said about that, but we don’t want the sequels to be done in the same prototypical way as the first one. We want it to be a much smoother workflow just for creativity reasons.”

Complex Scripts make Amazing movies.

The director compared the complexity of Avatar, to works like Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: “Peter Jackson had it easy with The Lord of the Rings because he already had the books. In my case the scripts for Avatar have enormous proportions. If I had a time machine, I could see the two sequels in order to shoot the fourth film, but I can’t. I will take my time, without setting any specific dates”.

To Cameron’s fans around the world, Avatar still seems a long way off. As he mentioned, he still has many projects on his mind before even thinking about the film. He concluded by promising that the wait will be much worth it.
