Lil Wayne is more than just a world-famous hip hop artist and mogul, he is also the owner of the newly opened Trukstop Skate Park in New Orleans. As a self-proclaimed skater, Lil Wayne officially cut the ribbon and launched the new Trukstop skate park on September 26, 2012, just one day before his 30th birthday. Located in the Lower 9th Ward Village in New Orleans, the skate park was designed as a symbol to show that the city and its residents have survived the devastation and destruction that Hurricane Katrina brought to the area in 2005.

The Purpose for the New New Orleans Skate Park

The newest skate park in New Orleans does not cater to just professional skate boarders. In fact, Lil Wayne opened the park to give children in the city something to do. He encourages children to try and do something new that they have never done before no matter how difficult it may be. With motivation and dedication, kids of the city can learn a new skill and accomplish their goals.

An Environmentally-Friendly Design

A lot of planning went behind the construction of Trukstop Skate Park. Not only is park a sight to be seen, it was also constructed with environmentally-friendly materials that were previously recycled. The park has slide rails, half-pipes, skating embankments and all of the park components that any novice skater or experienced skater needs to improve. After a year of planning, the skate park is now opened for use. To stay on the environmentally-friendly theme, the lights are all powered by solar energy to cut down on consumption in New Orleans.

A Product of the DeWeezy Campaign

Lil Wayne could easily be called a marketing genius. Not only does he market himself as an artist, he markets himself as a philanthropist as well. But it is important to realize that the new skate park is a product of the efforts of Lil Wayne, Mt. Dew and the Make it Right Foundation. Each party collaborated together to fund, design, and plan the construction of the project.

Showing Off Tricks

At the ribbon cutting ceremony on September 26, 2012, Weezy and some of his professional skating friends all tested out the parks ramps and rails. After the ribbon was cut, Theotis Beasley and Paul Rodriguez hopped on their skate boards to show the audience what they were made of. Lil Wayne, who has a new found passion for skate boarding, also took time to show off some of his less advanced moves to the crowd. The opening attracted people from all around the city who wanted to see Lil Wayne and wanted to see this new creation.

The Trukstop Skate Park will be open every day of the week for the use of the general public. The park is expected to be very busy and a new found home to children and teens who already have a passion for skate boarding.
