While thinking about all of the things a man should be able to do, it almost felt as if there needed to be some sort of test for everything. Whether that be washing up, ironing a shirt, or cooking something from scratch rather than simply throwing an unhealthy ready meal into the microwave for three minutes, men need to learn these things!

Even in today’s world full of equality and political correctness, there are still shocking numbers of men who leave home and have not got a clue how to look after themselves. As long as the X-Box is working and the fridge is well stocked with beers, what more is there to worry about?

Now obviously no-one will ever suggest a test in order to acquire a License to Leave Home – but what should men be able to do easily?

Sensible Eating

It is a long established legend that men can, almost by default, cook a small number of things relatively easily. In terms of decent meals, this tends to go no further than spaghetti bolognese and steak. That said, even those have a tendency to go wrong sometimes!

There are enough sensible meals that are easy to make that men should learn, from those mentioned to things such as stir fry’s and stews, which ultimately amount to little more than chopping something up and throwing it in a pan.

The only negative consequence would surely be a huge drop in sales of ready to boil noodles in supermarkets around the world.

Ironing Something Properly

You know the guy who is sitting in your office right now and never takes his jacket off, no matter how hot it gets. Take a look at him now, yeah, there he is. Go and ask him if he lives alone. Chances are that he only irons the front of his shirts, and his sleeves and back are nothing short of a disgrace.

You might want to ask from distance, though, he’s probably had the same pants on all week.

General Organization

If there is perhaps one thing, above all others, that should be dealt with first, then it is surely a man’s sense of priority and general organization around his life.

That means understanding that, having left home, certain things need to be paid for first before the X-Box Live subscription, high-definition cable, and aforementioned beers in the fridge.

All simple stuff – even men should be able to understand, right?
