Effective Beauty Uses for Lemon Juice

As a fruit, lemon might not be the most appetizing thing to eat, but it works great to enhance the flavor of our water or tea. It also has so many uses in cooking, that it’s a staple in many households, and you can always find a container of lemon juice or lemons waiting to be squeezed in the fridge.

But did you know that lemon juice might actually be one of the most effective and versatile beauty products you own? Lemon juice has a variety of uses, and it can leave your skin, hair, and nails looking simply beautiful. Here are some of the ways you can use lemon juice in your beauty routine.

Hair Rinse

Bring a small container of lemon juice (or about 4oz) with you into the shower. After you shampoo, rinse your hair with the lemon juice. Rinse again with cool water, and repeat every day or as desired. You will be simply shocked at the wonders this lemon juice rinse will do for your hair. It will leave it softer, shinier, and cleaner, and it will significantly reduce frizz.

Exfoliation

Mix lemon juice with sugar, and you’ve created a great exfoliating product. Rub your face with the mixture, and then rinse with cool water. It will help remove dead skin cells and unclog your pores.

Acne Treatment

Because lemon juice is acidic, it’s a great way to kill the germs and bacteria that cause acne and pimples on your skin. Mix lemon juice with oatmeal until you’ve formed a paste, and use it as a spot treatment for acne, an acne-fighting cleansing face wash, or as a mask. For the mask, cover your face with the lemon juice and oatmeal, leave it on until it hardens, and rinse.
Age Spot Reduction

Lemon juice can help lighten the dark age spots that you have on your face. Just dab a little lemon juice on your spots, and leave it on for about 15 minutes before rinsing. Do this twice per day, and you will see your dark age spots begin to lighten.

Nail Treatment

Soaking your nails in a mixture of warm water and lemon juice (about one-half of a lemon’s worth to one cup of water) is a great way to clean them. Leave your nails in for about 5-10 minutes, and then rub the inside of the lemon peel over your nails. They will be noticeably whiter, shinier, and cleaner.
Wrinkle Reduction

To create a facial mask that will help reduce and prevent wrinkles, boil one cup of milk with two teaspoons of lemon juice and one tablespoon of brandy. Once the mixture has cooled to room temperature, apply it to your skin. After it dries, wipe your skin smooth.

Teeth Whitening

Lemon juice can help whiten your teeth by removing stains. Just mix lemon juice, salt, and baking soda until you’ve formed a paste, and rub it over your teeth with a toothbrush. This will help combat stains caused by smoking or drinking coffee and other colored beverages.
