Top Story – The 5 Healthiest Alcoholic Drinks

Everyone knows that the American population are more conscious of their health now more than ever. The majority of the foods we eat are not healthy for us. Prepackaged foods are high in fat, sodium and calories. Americans are fighting the battle of the bulge. Obesity is at a record high in America.

A lack of exercise certainly plays a part. Leading a sedentary lifestyle adds fuel to the fire, so to speak. If we take in more calories than we need it turns to fat. Our jobs are a contributor as well. Some of us sit all day with little activity. We’re always rushing so we eat on the go. We eat foods that are convenient but not healthy.

But this is food, what about alcoholic drinks?Americans consume a lot of alcohol on a daily basis and much more on holidays. Alcohol can have devastating effects on the body. Drinking in moderation is advised. Many feel it’s okay it’s just liquid. Actually, alcoholic drinks are loaded with calories. So what’s the solution? Becoming educated on the subject. Let’s take a look at some research done on the 5 healthiest alcoholic drinks.

The first drink is champagne. Champagne is served at a lot of special occasions. A regular glass of champagne has around 85 calories. That would be a 4 oz. glass. This is about 15-100 calories less than beer. Beer also contains maltose which is sugar.

Bloody Mary

The second alcoholic drink is the Bloody Mary. The Bloody Mary is made from vodka, tomato juice, tabasco, celery, Worcester sauce and more. Bloody Mary’s are high in sodium. It would be wise not to add any additional salt.

White Wine

Dry White Wine is third on the list. White wine is low in sugar but high in antioxidants. This makes it a healthy choice.

Gin and Tonic

Fourth on the list is gin and tonic. Tonic has quinine, a natural white crystalline alkaloid. Quinine has antipyretic properties(reduces fever), analgesic (painkilling) and anti-inflammatory properties. Gin has no added sugar, it is a pure alcohol.

Vodka Soda

The fifth healthiest alcoholic drink on the list is vodka and soda. A standard, typical drink of vodka and soda is around 200 calories. Calorie content may be lowered by 100 calories by switching from regular soda to a diet soda of your choice.

With a little planning, you can have healthy alcoholic drinks. But keep this in mind, moderation is the key. If an alcoholic drink is 200 calories for one then two is 400 calories and so forth.
