Difficult people! Unfortunately they are something we will all have to deal with at some point in our lives. I bet you can easily write down at least 5 difficult people that you deal with on a regular basis. The problem is that we cannot always distance ourselves from difficult people.
Maybe you work with them or maybe they even live in your house! And while it may be extremely hard to deal with difficult people, there are a few things you can do to make the process easier. Here are 6 ways you can deal with difficult people.
1. Always Assume The Best In Everyone
You can never tell what’s going on in a persons personal life. They might be being difficult with you because they are going through a tough divorce at home or because they just lost a close loved one. That’s why you always have to assume the best in everyone and show a little compassion.
2. Understand That No One Is Perfect
We all have faults. All too often we forget this fact and immediately start to judge people when they are being difficult. But as the good book says, let he without sin cast the first stone. Look at the man, or woman, in the mirror. I assure you there are times when you can be difficult as well. You are not perfect and neither is anyone else. So learn how to make room for others imperfections.
3. Stop Trying To Fix Everybody
While this is a noble act, it just can’t be done. Some people have to learn on their own. So step back and let them deal with the consequences of their actions.
4. Try To Find Some Common Ground
Call me crazy but I believe we are all more alike than we are different. When you are dealing with a difficult person try to find something you both agree on and take it from there.
5. Distance Yourself
Its okay to walk away when a person is just getting out of control. Sometimes difficult people don’t know when to stop. If this is the case just distance yourself from them for a while.
6. Hang Around Positive People
There is a lot of negativity in the world. The best way to offset that negativity is to hang around positive people who are spirit filled. So the next time you encounter a difficult person keep these 6 tips in mind. They are way more powerful than you realize.
