As the summertime sizzle arrives and the thermometer is about to burst, everyone is ready to cool down. There are a host of refreshing drinks that you can make by yourself to beat the heat. Enjoy them alone or invite friends to a party, sit back and chill.
1. Sun Tea is one of the all time favorites in the summer. While it is a tradition in the South, people enjoy it during the hottest season no matter where they live and it is so simple to make. Get a clear jug of a half gallon or gallon size and make sure you can seal the top. Glass is best but clear plastic will work. For the half gallon size, tie together four teabags. For the gallon size, tie together seven or eight. Fill the jug with water and toss the tea bags in. If you like sweet tea, add sugar to taste. A half cup generally works well for the half gallon jug, a cup for the gallon jug. You can always adjust the amount or leave it out and add sugar later. Set the jug outside early in the morning on a warm sunny day and let it brew. At the end of the day, bring it in, remove the bags and stir. Add ice and you’re set.
2.Strawberry daiquiris are a real treat that will make you feel like you’re having a dessert. Make them with or without rum and they’ll still taste wonderful. All you need is four cups of frozen strawberries, six cups of ice, about a half cup of lemon juice, a quarter cup of lime juice and top it off with a quarter cup of lemon lime soda. If you decide to add rum, go for just under a cup. Blend it all in the blender until smooth and add whipped cream.
3. Lemonade is a classic and oh so easy to make it by the cup. With a juicer, cut a lemon in half and squeeze it into a glass of ice. Add a mixture of sugar and water, then stir. The amount of sugar is up to you. Experiment for the tartness you prefer.
4. Mojitos are great in the summer. Juice half of a lime and half a teaspoon of sugar in a glass. Add a sprig of crushed mint leaves and crushed ice. Two ounces of white rum come next, then carbonated water to the brim and more mint.
5.Don’t forget a yogurt smoothie! In a blender, add the yogurt and fruit of your choosing, crushed ice and blend.
