If you’re at a loose end, either with friends or alone, there are plenty of ways you can entertain yourselves without it costing very much at all. In fact today’s tip is practically free, ever so luxurious and great fun too.
Here’s how to give yourself a pedicure in the comfort of your own living room:
Step 1: Get Supplies
A night of pampering should be relaxing and easy, so it is best to stock up on everything you will need in advance. The following are mostly necessary but with a few optional suggestions thrown in:
- Nail polish remover
- Cotton wool
- Nail polish
- Nail scissors and clippers
- Nail file
- Cuticle oil
- Foot scrub
- Something to soak your feet in
- Chocolate and a good film
- Incense
Step 2: Remove old nail polish
This goes without saying really doesn’t it, but the first step is to pamper your feet and get back to basics.
Step 3: Foot spa
Time to fill a container with warm water and some oil and bath salts or whatever else you fancy. If you have an actual foot spa then all the better, but if not a washing up tub will do fine.
Soak your feet as long as you like, enjoy yourself and if needed use that foot scrub now too.
Step 4: The nails
The aim here is to get your nails looking uniform, cut them short, but not too short. Carefully push back your cuticles and then use some cuticle oil. Rest your feet a while on a towel whilst they dry and finally use some foot lotion to soften your skin (and because it feels nice)
Step 5: Apply nail polish
Putting nail polish on in a hurry is one thing, but for a proper pedicure you have to take your time. Ideally you should start with a clear undercoat to ensure you have the perfect surface on which to paint. This will make your nail polish last longer without cracking.
Finally, apply polish – 2 coats is ideal – leave plenty of time between coats though to ensure a smooth finish.
Step 6: Chill
Ok, your feet are done, hopefully they look fab and feel just as good. Now is time to put on that film if you haven’t already and enjoy that chocolate…
Or alternatively of course, put on your best pair of sexy sandals and get out there to show off your perfectly pampered feet!

A quick tip: if you want your polish to last ;onger on your toes always use a quality top coat to finish. This will give a more protection and make the finish last longer.

DIY Mani-Pedis are awesome. I have my own little stash of OPI colors, but it’s so hard to stay still.
