If you have ever gone on a night out with a bunch of women, you will know it takes many of them a ridiculous amount of time to get ready.  In fact, some women actually take a number of days to get ready!  Men will never understand how this is possible but, as a woman, I have to admit that it baffles even me.  However, it is the way it is and perhaps I simply am not the average woman.  However, whenever I go on a night out, I do find myself looking in the mirror over and over again wondering if I missed something.  It takes me no more than half an hour to get ready, and that’s only because I insist on having a vodka and coke as I slap on the makeup and put on my clothes. 

The Days Before Going Out

Before going out, women have to make sure their skin and hair looks perfect.  This means that their hair has to be died and cut at least three days before the event.  That way, if it doesn’t look right, they have the time to change it.  Similarly, the fake tan has to be applied at the right moment.  This is a hard one.  If you apply fake tan wrong, you turn out looking like you’ve been tangoed.  Hence, they have to do it long enough away from the actually day to have the time to either let it fade a bit or have it redone with a spray tan.  On the other hand, if they do it to long before the actual day, the tan will have faded so much they may as well not have bothered.  Usually, women do their tan a day or two before the event.

Choosing What to Wear

Choosing what to wear is another major issue.  They may have a cupboard full of clothes, but the right garment depends entirely on where they are going and who they are going with.  It is best to assume that they will need new clothes, because they can’t wear the same clothes they have worn before to the same venue or the when going out with the same group of people.  The clothing has to be just right as well.  Not too shabby, not too chic and perfectly coordinated with their shoes and accessories.  Also, they have to try and look better than the other people in the group.

The Make Up

This is my own particular bone of contention.  My hair is just straight and blonde, so I don’t have it died and cut just before I go out.  I don’t believe in fake tans, so I don’t have that issue either.  And I’m pretty casual in my dress sense.  But I care about makeup.  Yet, even if I apply foundation, powder, eye shadow, eye liner, mascara and lipstick, it still doesn’t take me the four hours it takes most of my other friends.  I don’t know what it is that they do that can take so long, since I’m pretty sure they use the same amount of products as me.  I do know one of my friends always has a cotton wool bud dabbed in some sort of lotion with her, but I have no idea what that’s actually for.  She also blinks really slowly, apparently to make her lashes curl more or something like that.  Perhaps that takes an hour to do?  I honestly don’t know and I won’t ever pretend to get it.

For me, getting ready takes no more than an hour, everything included.  I do my hair, pick one of my party dresses for women, put on my makeup and I’m good to go.
