10 Hot Makeup Tips to Match the Summer Heat

Summer is here! It is the time to give the body a healthy tan while protecting it from the horrors of sunburn, dry lips and skin cancer. Makeup disasters can happen if not properly attended to. While it’s time to put out the summer wardrobe, it is also important to set up the hottest makeup in a cosmetic bag to match the summer heat. Here are some important makeup tips, compiled from the best image consultants, to maintain a healthy and protected skin during this summer.

1. Essential Protection

The skin is more prone to be exposed to harmful UVA and UVB rays during summer, even on a cloudy day. Protect the skin from damage by using an SPF factor of 15, or higher, moisturizer. Use it daily to combat early signs of aging such as fine lines and sun spots. Apply SPF moisturizer onto a clean face and allow 10 minutes for it to be absorbed before applying foundation.

2. Light Foundation

Applying foundation can feel too heavy on the skin during the hot summer weather. For a fresher, lighter look, use a tinted moisturizer as replacement for foundation. Apply it with a damp sponge to get an even look. To give added radiance, dab a little concealer under the eyes.

3. Healthy Glow

A lovely summer’s day calls for a healthy glow appearance to make a person feel better. One of the easiest ways to achieve this is by using a bronzer. In this aspect of applying makeup, ladies are worried that they’ll choose the wrong shade of bronzer. To choose the right one, apply bronzer on the skin at the back of the hand – the general rule is, choose a bronzer that is one or two shades darker than the natural skin tone. This will make the skin appear sun-kissed, instead of ending up looking like an orange.

4. Bright Eyes

Lighter, neutral shades of eye shadow are perfect for the summer. When it’s too hot though, it is not advisable to exert effort of applying a full make-up. Instead, a touch of mascara and a little eye liner will do to open up the eyes and bring life to a face. Also, swap black mascara for one that is either brown or brown-black for a lighter, more summer appearance. To complete the summer look, remember to have the eyebrows professionally shaped.

5. Waterproof Mascara

There is nothing worse than running mascara. To avoid this, waterproof mascara is great for the summer especially for those who always want to go for a swim. It’s also hard to remove mascara, so choose an oil-based eye make-up remover to take it off properly.

6. Luscious Lips

Being out in the sun can take its toll on the skin, even the lips. When sunbathing, it’s important to apply some lip balm first to keep the lips soft and supple. Lip gloss or a touch of lipstick can go perfectly well with a slight tanned skin.

7. Soft Highlights

The summer season can make the skin look dry. A highlighter can completely change how a tanned skin looks. Apply it on the cheekbones and temples, eye, and the Cupid’s bow for a more moisturized and glowing look. It can also be applied on the shoulders and the cleavage area. At nighttime, a glittery highlighter can be used.

8. Rosy Cheeks

Rosy cheeks are in all the time, even during summer. However, it should not be confused with its cousin, the bronzer. Bronzers make the skin look tanned, whereas blushes make the skin look ‘flushed’. For choosing the right blush, the same rules apply for choosing the right bronzer. Remember to build up the color gradually until the soft natural glow is achieved.

9. Cool Toes

Ok, so this does not come under the makeup category, but it’ll surely complete the summer look. To keep the body cool and the skin fresh, wear sandals or flip-flops. This comes with clean feet, too. Use a pumice or foot file to clean them and remove dry and unsightly cracked heels. Finish with foot lotion or moisturizer for smooth and supple feet.

10. Smooth All Over

Whether spending time in or out of the sun, the most important thing is to moisturize. It can’t be good that the face looks good, but the body doesn’t feel good. Looking beautiful and fashionable should be an overall effort – from head to toes. Make sure to invest in a floppy sun hat and a pair of sun glasses. Most importantly, keep a bottle of sun tan lotion handy in a summer cosmetic bag to help protect the skin from sun damage when needed.
