One of the most unpleasant and embarrassing of all bodily functions is flatulence. Yet it is also one of the most common. Nobody wants to be in a social setting and have to deal with the embarrassment of releasing gas at the most inopportune moment. Although it is part of life, there are some ways in which you can make reduce the amount that you pass wind. Avoid Certain Foods
Although each person is different, there are certain foods that are known to commonly cause gas. These include high fiber foods, beans, peas, cabbage, soft drinks, and beer, among others. The best thing to do is to keep a log of what you eat, and monitor your body’s response to each thing. You will probably find that you have certain triggers that cause wind more than others.
When you eat fast, you are gulping down air along with your food. By eating slowly, you reduce the amount of air that you take into your body, therefore causing less gas to need to be released.
Gas may be an indication of a greater problem with your digestion. If you consistently experience a lot of gas after certain types of food, or in addition to other symptoms such as diarrhea, you may have an intolerance to a certain food such as lactose or gluten. You may find that walking or running after eating helps to kick start your digestion and relieve any painful bloating.
If you really cannot do anything else, there are plenty of effective over the counter medicines for excessive gas. Trapped wind can be a painful experience, so make sure that any steps that you take are to release, rather than to contain!
