When we think of the world’s top super models, names like Gisele Bundchen, Kate Moss and Claudia Schiffer spring to mind. However, ask a person on the street to name just one top male model and you will most likely be met with a blank stare. In short, female models have a lot more pulling power than their male counterparts as there is simply a larger market for female branded products. Although the world is changing fast, high fashion, make up and shoes are still largely part of the female domain. As a result, male models earn far less than the fairer female, topping around $500,000 a year. This is not a bad salary, but when compared to Gisele’s $45 million earned between May 2010 and May 2011 it’s a mere fraction. Nevertheless, male models are still deserving of a top earning list, so here it is.
Third Highest Earning Male Model: Lars Bursmeister
The German male model Lars Bursmeister is one of the most recognisable faces in the business, thanks to his five year professional relationship with Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio and his 2005 campaigns for Hugo Boss. His former career was far less glamorous; he worked as a part-time mechanic in Hamburg and had never even considered male modelling until his sister convinced him otherwise. She took some shots of her gorgeous brother and sent them to the Hamburg modelling agency Mega Models. From there his male modelling career took off, taking him to the catwalks of Milan, Paris and New York. His strong jaw line, strong presence and classic good looks make this male model a firm favourite.
Second Highest Earning Male Model: David Gandy
The second highest money man in the male model industry is David Gandy, although he probably has the most recognisable face and abdominal muscles in the business. If you’re not yet sure of his identity then Dolce and Gabbana Davidhoff Cool Water should jog your memory. David Gandy is the unbelievably sexy Mediterranean-looking male model who shares a small wooden rowing boat with an equally gorgeous beauty. Surprisingly enough, he is actually of British origin and is often referred to as the only male ‘supermodel’. In 2001 he won a modelling contest and since then he has never looked back.
Highest Earning Male Model: Gabriel Aubry
The top spot of the highest earning male model goes to Gabriel Aubry. This male model was born in Montreal and is one of nine siblings. He was first discovered in a night club by a stylist; the following year he featured in print adverts for DKNY. Since then he has been the face and body of some of the most high profile brands, including Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger and Versace. His social profile was raised even further when he started dating Hollywood actress Halle Berry. Apart from his modelling career, this male model has used his stardom to open restaurants and release albums, boosting his annual income considerably.
