Can Short Shorts Be Classy?

In fashion, everything and anything can be constructed as classy; it all depends on how you combine different elements together to create an outstanding outfit. As long as your look is properly thought out, it shouldn’t matter whether you’re wearing a feather headpiece, bright yellow clogs, or short shorts.

While short shorts are generally associated with beachwear and/or teenagers on spring break, as long as your shorts are well-fitted and do not show more skin than is necessary, say, half of your butt cheeks, you can actually wear them to different events and stay classy about it. If you insist on having most of your behind seen, do remember to stay away from places of worship or solemn occasions such as a funeral since other people may not appreciate your sense of dressing. Having said that, do take note of restaurants or galleries with extremely strict dress code too. One thing you can do to get around that would be to have on stockings underneath your shorts.

Try not to wear your short shorts with belts as they could overwhelm your shorts and result in an unbalanced and unproportionate look- unless you get the ones with a really thin strap. Other than that, short shorts, like most shorts in general, are completely versatile and can easily carry you from morning to night.

Here are some classy ways you can dress up your short shorts:

  • Pair them with a blazer. Most outfits are instantly sharpened with a blazer, especially one that sits nicely on your shoulders. You can complete the look with heels and a clutch or a structured handbag. For a more casual affair, throw on an oversized blazer instead and push up the sleeves. Wear them with chunky platforms, sandals or ballerina pumps and a slouchy bag which could be tossed across your chest to add an even more casual effect.
  • For a bohemian vibe, get a flowy blouse as your top. Adorn both hands with bangles and finish the outfit with a sling bag and strappy sandals. Include a headband around your forehead or put on a wide brimmed floppy hat to go full hippie mode.
  • Wear your short shorts with a buttoned down shirt (long-sleeved, short-sleeved, or sleeveless) and tuck the shirt in. Pair with a clutch or a bag with long shoulder straps that reaches to your mid-thigh/knee to elongate and balance out the proportion of your body. Make sure that the shirt fits just right so that this look doesn’t go into the sleepwear category. Any shoes would go well with this, even canvas shoes or high-cut sneakers.
