Ladies: Are You Addicted to Shoes?

It’s one of those stereotypes that seems to have a real root in reality… it seems (at least for some women) you can never have enough shoes!

What Is It About Shoes?

Shoes… they were first worn, as far as we know, over 5500 years ago and were we presume first crafted to protect the feet from sharp rocks, thorns and other dangers.

As feet contain sensitive nerves which react badly to shocks and cuts, it makes perfect sense to protect as much as possible, perhaps offering padding and protection, but it seems there is something else primitive about shoes… an urge which must be satisfied and other hidden purposes to this most seemingly practical pieces of clothing.

Shoes for the fashion conscious

Some women have openly admitted to being ‘addicted’ to shoes and in fact a poll on MSN put the average ownership at an absolutely staggering 39 pairs! So where does this ‘addiction’ come from and why are shoes so important to women? Well it seems the answer may be with getting that perfect overall look. Apparently an outfit really has to have the right sort of footwear or it just looks ‘odd’.

High heels can make women feel especially sexy. They change the shape of the leg, creating an illusion of a more slender leg, adding height and poise. The power of a high heeled shoe or boot is quite dramatic, and is often the difference between looks that are ‘to die for’ and ‘to die from’! Afterall, it would be wrong to wear that brand new dress and not get a pair of shoes to go with it, right?

Early signs of shoe addiction

Hey, you deserve to look amazing, and if that means a little bit of extra justification to get the right boots is needed, so be it! It just gets dangerous when that thought process goes from ‘I can’t decide on the pair I want,” to, “why not just buy both pairs?” This is the sign of the beginnings of shoe addiction!

Another sign is how high you set your sights on designer brands. Do you have palpitations by a pair of Louboutins? Does your breath become shallow at the mere mention of Jimmy Choo? Again, this could mean that you are starting on a slow and steady craving, and… shoe madness! Okay, I’m exaggerating, but shoes can get expensive.

It’s worth remembering that many of the looks by designer brands can be emulated by more affordable lines. Don’t panic! Affordable doesn’t mean cheap and nasty! You can find a great pair of shoes that have a stylish designer look without breaking the bank. It also means that’s more you can spend on a new bag too…
